Announcing Online Book Reviews:
A new Member Benefit

 

The North Carolina Poetry Society is pleased to announce a new book review program exclusively for NCPS members. Reviews for selected books will be considered for features on our website/blog, in eMuse and/or on social media. 

Please read the following guidelines before submitting. 

Eligibility:

• Must be a member of NCPS in good standing (if unsure, email Joan Barasovska msjoan9@gmail.com to clarify)
• Only books published in the last two years, please (2024-2026).
• Please submit as a digital copy (pdf file)
• Both full-length books of poetry and chapbooks are eligible. 
• Books must be published, not in manuscript form. 
• No self-published / vanity press books, please.
• Books must align with NCPS mission and values. Any book submitted not in alignment with our core values will not be considered for a review. 

The North Carolina Poetry Society is an inclusive, welcoming community that does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, age, political preference, or any other category that has been used to divide human beings from each other and the natural world.  We value diverse voices and varieties of expression. 

-Previous awardees of the Lena M. Shull Book Award and Brockman-Campbell Book Award, current and former contest winners, recipients of the Susan Laughter Meyers Fellowship and Gilbert-Chappell Distinguished Poetry Series Mentees are especially encouraged to submit their books to be considered for a review.

How to submit a book for consideration:

• Please email a PDF to ncpscommunications@gmail.com with the subject line “Book Review Submission: _____ (insert the title of your book).” 
• In the body of the email include your book’s title, ISBN and publisher and a three-sentence summary. 
• If you are a current or previous year’s contest winner, etc. share that as well.
• Please include content warnings, when applicable, keeping in mind the core values of the North Carolina Poetry Society stated above. 
• A brief biographical statement, maximum 100 words, should accompany your submission, as well as any relevant links to social media and your website. 

Please allow three months for a response.

While we strive to respond to every submission as soon as possible, we are a small staff of volunteers and interns, and our capacity is limited. Please understand that due to the high volume of submissions and limited number of reviewers available, we are unable to review every title that is submitted. We strive to give each poet and book the attention and time they deserve. Thank you for your understanding.
