Sam Ragan Day on March 10
Mark your calendars for another remarkable day of poetry on March 10, when we celebrate Sam Ragan Day at Weymouth Center for the Arts.  The morning will feature readings by Steve Cushman and Ashley R. “Milli” Lumpkin, followed by open mic.  After lunch and tours of the gardens, Keith Flynn will conduct a workshop on poetry and music.  For a more detailed schedule, click here.  You won’t want to miss it!

Steve Cushman Wins the 2018 Lena Shull Book Award
The 2018 winner of the Lena M. Shull Poetry Book Award sponsored by the NC Poetry Society is Steve Cushman for his manuscript, How Birds Fly.  The judge this year was Patricia Fargnoli, former poet laureate of New Hampshire.  For more information about the winner, click here.   The winning manuscript is being published by St. Andrews University Press and the poet will receive $250 along with fifty copies of the book.  Mr. Cushman will give a reading at McIntyre’s Books at a time to be announced.

Brockman-Campbell Award Submissions
The prestigious Brockman-Campbell Book Award for the best collection of poetry published by a North Carolina poet during the previous year opened on January 1, 2018.  Authors currently resident in or with strong ties to North Carolina are encouraged to enter their books for consideration.  For further information about submitting your book, click here.  Final deadline is May 1, 2018.  The winners are invited to read at the September NCPS meeting at Weymouth.

Remembering Sally Buckner
We have just received news of the death of Sally Buckner, one of North Carolina’s guiding poetic lights, on Sunday, January 7.  We will feature a tribute to her at Sam Ragan Day on Saturday, March 10, at Weymouth.  To read the obituary of this remarkable woman, click here.

Poetry Reading at McIntyre’s Books
The next poetry reading at McIntyre’s Books, co-sponsored by the NC Poetry Society, will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 25.  Featured poets will be Dorothy Baird, Michael Beadle, and Elio Soldi.  Fearrington Village is located on 15-501 between Pittsboro and Chapel Hill.  This monthly reading series is hosted by Carolyn and Guy York.
