The North Carolina Poetry Society holds poetry-related contests and gives away several awards each year, for both Adults and Students (which includes 3rd Graders all the way to University Undergraduates).
Book-Length Poetry Contests:
The Lena M. Shull Book Contest for unpublished book-length poetry manuscripts. The winning manuscript is published each spring by St. Andrews University Press, and the winning poet gives a reading and is invited to lead a workshop at Poetry Day Hickory. The 2017 submission period opens on September 16 and closes on October 22. Click on the link above for contest guidelines.
The Brockman-Campbell Book Award is given each year to the best poetry collection by a native or resident of North Carolina. The winners are invited to read from their work at the September meeting of the North Carolina Poetry Society at Weymouth Center for the Arts in Southern Pines. Deadline for submissions is May 1. Contests for Individual Poems:
We have single-poem contests each year for both adults and students. Individual contests highlight particular forms or themes; contests for students are designated for particular age groups.
